VANITY CHAIR

N/A

1988

Originally exhibited as part of the installation The withDrawing Room at the Capp Street Project in San Francisco, Vanity Chair disassembles a recognizable, everyday object. A mirror stands where one would sit, rendering the chair unusable. Supporting the weight of a small mirror, a third leg passes between the chair’s legs and cuts through the seat. The strategic position of the mirror and chair ensures an acute awareness of the space between the face and mirror, constituting an internal domain of personal vanity.
